Taylor selected as PCAC Coach of the Year after title run

SAN DIEGO (5-07-2018) (Updated 5-10-2018) -- Palomar's Buck Taylor, who guided the Comets to the 2018 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference baseball championship, was honored as Coach of the Year by PCAC coaches at their all-conference selection meeting at San Diego Mesa College on Monday.

It is the eighth time Taylor has been selected for the award. He previously was honored as conference Coach of the Year in 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012, 1013, 2014 and 2015, and was named PCAC Men's Sports Coach of the Year for all sports for both the 2008-09 and 2014-15 academic years.

Five of Taylor's Palomar players received All-PCAC first-team recognition -- sophomore infielder Conor McKenna, freshman first baseman Mike Galvan, sophomore relief pitcher Kenneth LaPierre, sophomore catcher Tristan King and sophomore outfielder Marco Young, who is headed to the University of Oregon.

The Comets' honorable mention selections are Kevin Palm, Matt Ornelia, Eric Charles, Nathan Soriano, Brett Lockwood, Russell Grant, George Chapman, Jake Thompson and Mitch Moralez.

Grossmont College sophomore centerfielder Eric De La Rosa was named PCAC Player of the Year.

The other conference first-team selections are pitchers Brandon Weed (Southwestern), Jake Lipetsky (San Diego City College) and Kyle Cringan (Mesa); catcher Trevor Castillo (Mt. San Jacinto); infielders Adam Lopez (Southwesern), Tyler Van Marter (San Bernardino Valley), Nick Follett (College of the Desert), Reece Hernandez (Grossmont) and Shane Mittleman (Mt. San Jacinto); outfielders Jacob Johnson (San Bernardino Valley), Jeff Pellegrino (Mesa), Luke Reinhert (Mt. San Jacinto), Kenny Ohlauser (Southwestern) and Tyler Leskiw (Mesa); designated hitter Takis Thayer (Mesa); and utility player Ricky Yoquigua (Southwestern).
