CHICAGO (7-19-2015) / (7-21-2015) -- Palomar's Tyler Saladino homered for the second straight game on Tuesday night as he went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs against the St. Louis Cardinals. Saladino, the Chicago White Sox' starting third baseman who turned 26 on Sunday, slugged a two-run shot that landed deep in the stands behind the leftfield fence in the fifth inning. He'd singled for the Sox' first hit of the night in the fourth and came around to score as he ran his consecutive-game hit streak to seven games. He also singled in the bottom of the ninth after an "out" call was reviewed on video. With Tuesday night's performance, Saladino raised his Major league batting average to .355. He has a .630 slugging percentage. Saladino's homer highlighted a three-run inning as the White Sox pulled to within 8-5 after trailing the Cardinals 7-0 earlier in the game. St. Louis won 8-5. Saladino, the 2009 PCAC Player of the Year for the Comets, slugged his first Major League home run on Sunday, depositing the ball over the leftfield wall at U.S. Cellular Field for the Sox' only run in a 4-1 loss to the American League Central-leading Kansas City Royals. The Sox had an off-day on Monday, Saladino's birthday. Saladino has started at third for the White Sox since being called up from Triple-A on July 10, playing almost flawless and often spectacularly defensively. His offense has also been a big plus in a batting order that sorely needs as much offense as it can get. Manager Robin Ventura officially confirmed Saladino as the Sox' everyday third baseman before Sunday's game. |
