Herrod dominates at Morley Field as Comets blank City College offense in 10-1 win
SAN DIEGO, CA (4/9/2026) -- Ryan Herrod was nearly untouchable Thursday afternoon at Morley Field. The right-hander struck out nine and allowed just one unearned run over seven innings as the No. 2 Palomar College Comets defeated San Diego City College 10-1 to take a 2-0 series lead, moving to 28-4 overall and 17-1 in the PCAC.
Herrod improved to 7-0 on the season, not issuing a single walk across 25 batters faced. Angel Barron and Chance Crawford each worked a scoreless inning in relief to close out the win — another clean outing from a bullpen that continues to make late innings feel like a formality.
The offense did its damage in two big swings. Palomar plated four runs in the second on a three-run shot from Braedon Peterson-Cheek and a sacrifice from Gavin Kramer, then added four more in the eighth to put it out of reach. Jacob Loving went 3-for-4 and scored twice, Rainn McMillan drove in two, and Elijah Stephens went 2-for-5 with two RBI. DC Ruth scored three times from the bottom of the order and drove in one.
San Diego City fell to 11-21 overall and 4-14 in the PCAC. Jackson Keeton homered for the Knights.
The Comets return home Saturday to wrap up the series against City College at Bob Vetter Field, with first pitch at 1 p.m.
