Griffins hand Comets a loss in game two, 17-6

LA MESA, CA (4/23/2026) -- Grossmont College came out swinging Thursday afternoon and never let up. The Griffins jumped on the No. 3 Palomar College Comets early and held on for a 17-6 victory at La Mesa to even the series at one game apiece, dropping Palomar to 33-5 overall and 22-2 in the PCAC.

Grossmont set the tone in the first inning, plating five runs before the Comets had a chance to settle in. Ryan Herrod allowed five runs in the first before giving way, and the Griffins kept adding to their lead with two more in the second, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, one in the seventh, and five more in the eighth. Drake Konja went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI, Anthony Thomas drove in three, and Logan Aguilar and Owen Rodgers each homered and drove in three. Talon Tucker was relentless, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and an RBI.

Palomar had its moments. Elijah Stephens homered and drove in two, Preston Conklin and Jacob Loving each knocked in two, but the Comets couldn't keep pace with a Grossmont lineup that finished with 19 hits and four home runs on the day.

Grossmont improved to 25-14 overall and 17-7 in the PCAC.

The Comets return home to Bob Vetter Field Friday for the regular season finale against the Griffins, with first pitch at 2 p.m.
