Bio

Rusty Huber is in his first season with the Comets as an assistant coach. He wrapped up his playing career in June of 2025 after 8 seasons of player/coaching overseas in Belgium and Melbourne, Australia. Previously, Huber served as bullpen coach in 2018 at his Alma mater, Rogers State University. He also has coached youth travel ball locally with the West Coast Clippers, San Diego SHOW and High Standards Baseball during his off seasons since leaving Palomar in 2015.

Collegiately, he began his two year stint at Palomar in 2014, winning conference titles in both seasons. As an impact reliever, he collected 5 saves during the 2015 Final Four season. He went on to pitch at Rogers State University in Oklahoma. There, he served as the closer racking up 23 saves across the two seasons with a 1.25 ERA in 72 innings, earning All-Conference and All-Region honors in both campaigns, culminating in All-American honors in his senior season in 2017. He was inducted into the Wall of Honor there in 2025.

Huber went overseas in 2019, starting in Belgium, leading the Merchtem Cats to a Division 1 championship. After COVID, he returned to Merchtem for the 2021 & 2022 seasons before heading down to Australia. Upon arrival with the Port Melbourne Mariners, Huber took on more coaching and administrative responsibilities, heading the program of up to 11 teams per season from 2022-25. His career overseas ended with 3 League MVPs, 2 Batting Titles & 1 wife, Nicole. They met playing for the Cats after her run as a 4 year starter at University of the Pacific as a softball infielder.

Rusty is an alumnus of Mira Mesa High School, where he and Nicole now reside. During Huber’s senior year in 2013, the Marauders finished as runner-up in CIF Division 1.

Huber holds a Bachelor's in Business Administration: Management & a Master’s in Education: Sport Management.
